15 March 2007, 11:00 PM– At 12 in the afternoon, a rally was taken out from the BASE Dang office (Wyakard Society foe Education). The rally was kicked off with two traditional dance performances i.e. the mohti Dance by Meer Meer Yuva Club (a traditional dance to welcome guests) and the Badla Naach (a tribal dance with religious importance). The rally went through the market area of Dang culminating in the Sheetalpur Chowk where a public meeting was held. Mr. Krishn Gopal Gupta and Dr. Shramlal Chaudhari from BASE welcomed the marchers. Mr. Shramlal Chaudhari said that this area is affected by poverty and that the difference between the rich and the poor is increasing which could be decreased only by equal and good quality of education.
The District Manager of NFO, Mr. Nauran Lamichhane, addressed the masses and said that child rights is a very important part of human rights but is utterly ignored but should be given utmost importance. Indian and Nepal Governments should penalize these traffickers and we will make sure that appropriate laws are enforced and implemented effectively. He also called on the people of Nepal to boycott the traffickers.
Kailash Satyarthi, concluding the public meeting, stated that for Nepal to develop, abolition of child labour and child trafficking is essential. He further stated that Nepal has become a hub for selling and buying of children. These children are most often than not sold to circuses where they are physically, mentally and sexually exploited.
The South Asian March Against Child Trafficking left for Nepalganj. On the way Kohalpur the free bonded labourers (Kammaiya community). To welcome the march they made garlands and honored Kailash Satyarthi and the other marchers. The South Asian March Against Child Trafficking finally reached Nepalganj where the marchers were received by Mr. Dilli Bahadur Chaudhari, President BASE, and his team. The marchers received a heartfilled welcome. |
